What does UPF mean and why is it important?

UPF is like a superhero outfit for your skin - it's the protective layer of clothing that shields you from the evil villain of sun damage! It's like having a trusty sidekick that's always by your side, blocking out those pesky UV rays that can wreak havoc on your skin. Think of UPF as your secret weapon for all outdoor adventures, whether you're scaling mountains, surfing waves, or just lounging in your backyard. It's the ultimate defence against sunburn, premature aging, and looking like a lobster on vacation!

More technical? UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates how much UV radiation is blocked by the fabric before it reaches your skin.

Tested within Australia by ARPANSA, Sunny Seas shirts are rated UPF 50+, the highest rating achievable! This means that our shirts fabric blocks 98% of the sun’s UVB and UVA rays, reducing your exposure risk significantly.

What is the difference between UPF and SPF?

SPF is like sunscreen's superhero cape - it protects your skin from the evil sunburn-causing UVB rays. UPF, on the other hand, is like the secret shield of your adventure apparel - it blocks both the villainous UVB rays and the sneaky UVA rays that can make you look like a wrinkled raisin before your time! So while SPF and UPF may sound like alphabet soup, they're actually the dynamic duo of sun protection that will keep you looking and feeling your best on all your outdoor escapades.

The technical stuff: UPF, Ultraviolet Protection Factor, is the protection rating given to fabrics and while SPF, Sun Protection Factor, is the rating for sunscreens.

Do I need to wear sunscreen whilst wearing a Sunny Seas shirt?

While our shirts provide you with UPF 50+ protection, you'll need to wear sunscreen on areas of your body which are not covered by your Sunny Seas shirt.

Care instructions:

Sunny Seas shirts are 100% polyester with sublimation printing.

It’s best to turn your adventure shirt inside out and machine wash on a cold, gentle cycle.

Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Do not tumble dry or iron.

If you are a rad local based in Karratha or one of the glorious towns within the City of Karratha, we offer free delivery to you (excluding to PO Boxes).

Tracking your order:

Once your adventure shirts start their journey to your front door, you will receive an email with a tracking number so that you can track its progress.
